Most text is never meant to be recited. It is a page of notes, a letter, a chapter, and the only thing wanted from it is comprehension. Reading it is simply the route, and for a great deal of material it is not the only one. An AI text reader takes that writing as it stands and says it out loud. Listening alone is poor for anything that has to be studied. Photographed squarely and in reasonable light, that text can be recognised and read aloud like anything else. Long passages need breaks

Listening to an uninterrupted reading for more than twenty minutes is tiring in a way that reading is not, because there is no natural place to stop. Marking the passage into sections before starting gives the ear places to rest and the listener somewhere to pick up from. What it will not read well

Layout carries meaning that speech cannot. Tables lose their columns, sidebars arrive in the wrong place, and a caption is read as though it belonged to the body text. Where the structure is doing the work, a reader is the wrong tool; where the writing is continuous prose, almost nothing is lost at all.
